Dea, Virgo, Domina

How did women live, work and act in Ancient Rome? For my Bachelor’s degree project, I investigated ways of presenting this fascinating aspect of history in an approachable and engaging way. The outcomes were a 200-page book containing historical facts, stories about real people, and infographics, and an accompanying website that combines the book’s content with additional themes and different media, such as movies or news articles.

A major topic in this project was the relation between print and online works and how information from a printed page can best be translated and adapted for the web. I investigated various ways of realising this translation, especially in regards to infographics and text enrichment.

“Dea, Virgo, Domina” means “Goddess, Virgin, Mistress” and reflects the broad scope of topics relating to women’s life I wanted to cover. A key learning for me was to be selective about which ideas I want to focus on – making a lot of effort with a few good ideas is probably better than spending only little time with a lot of different concepts.
